HATE GROUPS

White Supremacy organizations such as the KKK and Skinheads are a despicable blight on our nation, the most irresponsible perversion of the Constitutional right to freedom of speech and freedom to peaceably assemble.  I would love to make their existence illegal and expunge all their inflammatory literature from every media source.  But that might be the beginning of a very slippery slope leading to attempts to de-legitimize other groups that offend the prevailing public conscience. Unfortunately, radical fringe groups have always existed in our country, and nearly all have taken advantage of a cloak of protection under the Constitution they seek to undermine. 

 While all KKK members and Skinheads may be presumed to be white, it should not be assumed that all white males are racists.  Race-baiters of all persuasions are taking advantage of the current political climate to drive a wedge of distrust and enmity between blacks and whites and this is exactly the result hate groups are striving for.

All white people are not bad and never have been.  At the outset of the Civil War only 8% of Americans were slave holders.  There were even African-American and Native American slave holders.   A large majority of Americans were abolitionists. It is high time to stop flagellating ourselves for the sins of our past and go to work on the legacy we leave our children.
