The Science of God
I consider myself to be a believer in the truth of pure science. As such, it is not hard for me to conceive of the universe as being created in a “big bang”---a concentration and compression of primeval space dust and gases to a point of critical mass. Trouble is, I have to ask myself where the space dust came from in the first place. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that the universe was created from nothingness by an intelligent deity according to divine plan. But where did the deity originate? I haven’t been able to completely satisfy myself with either explanation, or with any combination of the two. Both camps speak confidently of the fundamental certainty of their respective concept of creation, seeing their opposite as ignorant or foolish. It may be that I will never have a definite answer until I cross the bar.
